Polka Dot Oval Placemats

As seen on PBS "Paint, Paint, Paint"

You will need

A Set of Fredrix® Oval Placemats
Pencil
Art Gum Eraser (or other good eraser)
Several 1 1/4" Spouncers (sponge pouncer)
Colors: Bright Yellow, Orange, Cadmium Red, Cobalt Blue, Berry, Teal Green (Viridian), Grass green, White
Paint extender (matte medium, glazing medium, or paint conditioner)
Small paint brush
Plastic paint lids
Acrylic Varnish

Step 1: Working on the smoothest side of Fredrix® Oval Placemats lightly pencil in large polka dots sized about 1 1/2" round randomly over the surface leaving about a 2" space between them. Do not worry about accurate spacing.

Step 2: Using yellow and orange, dip the spouncer half and half in each color and lightly press onto penciled dot using a turning stamping motion. The color will appear slightly unmixed and dimensional. Print about 5 or 6 dots randomly spaced over the surface.

Step 3: With a clean spouncer continue each color dot as follows printing dots of various colors all over the penciled dot areas. Using orange and red, dip spouncer half and half and print. Using berry and white, dip spouncer half and half and print Using blue and white, dip spouncer half and half and print. Using teal and white, dip spouncer half and half and print.

Step 4: Let dry. Pour grass green and yellow and a small amount of paint extender onto a paint lid and using a small paint brush create the background around dots. First circle around each dot leaving a small white halo space. Then fill in the empty spaces between the green outlines.

Step 5: Let dry.

Step 6: Follow the directions for finishing.
